RHYTHMIC STRESS / TENSIUNI ÎN RITM 08.04-16.05.2026 /SAC @ ACADEMIEI 18-20 “Rhythmic Stress” is an inquiry into movement, the movement of bodies, of breath, of images, of language, of architecture, of power. It is an exhibition conceived at the intersection of dance, performance, contemporary art, and spatial practice, where rhythm becomes both a material condition and a political force. Approaching movement not as ornament or spectacle, the conversation instigated by these works becomes a primary strategy for negotiating tension: tension between stillness and eruption, control and release, endurance and collapse, private sensation and public consequence. In this sense, “Rhythmic Stress” positions movement as a response to violence, loss, systemic injustice, and the accumulation of micro-events that shape our bodies long before they become legible as history.

MINCU Gallery – Metropolitan Institute of Culture. One of the most important exhibition spaces in downtown Bucharest, located on the ground floor of “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism. On Academiei Street, no. 20. A series of spaces and courtyards that create a spatial narrative with its own distinct character. A gallery open at both ends toward the university’s main lobby and the Cărturești Modul bookstore, configured around a rhythmic succession of picture rails oriented toward the portico’s glass facade. “Pocket Hall” connected on opposite sides to the interior courtyards, in a sequence of transparencies that holds together the major spaces of the UAUIM ground floor. Two directions of transparency. One perpendicular to Academiei Street and one parallel to the axis of the portico’s columns. Solid exhibition perimeters and glazed planes that lend depth to each individual spatial “episode.” Three large-scale movable structures and the grid of lights on the ceiling of the “Pocket Hall” multiply the possibilities for use and reconfiguration of exhibition modes (methods). The gallery collaborates with the UAUIM portico and the Cărturești Modul bookstore to form an integrated multifunctional complex where each component can redefine its role based on program elements (redefining the boundaries between exhibition space, public space, common space, bookstore, and courtyards). The gallery can extend into the portico and the bookstore; the bookstore can occupy the gallery’s adjacent space for book launches. Both can extend into the portico along with the café area. The portico connects to the exhibition space through large-scale glazing. Powered by /SAC, The Institute, Cărturești. Sponsored by Holver, Almalux, Color Metal, Siniat, Caparol, Anvelope.ro.
