Alternate Histories
With Cristi Pogăcean
Curated by Ciprian Mureșan
Cristi Pogăcean's exhibition Alternate Histories, although conceived before the political elections, perfectly reflects the turbulent times we live in. The exhibition's title suggests a crossroads where history is rewritten, with his works—including a collage depicting Hitler in Francis Bacon's studio—posing the question what if...?.
Pogăcean urges us not to fall into the trap, critiques the “sleep of reason,” and this Ionesco-like “collective psychosis,” presenting in a direct style the idea that totalitarianism does not stem from an absolute evil, as in Twin Peaks, but lurks among us, seemingly innocent, hidden in the banality of everyday life.
