“Some things reach out from the soil” brings together works and thoughts around compost – not just as a natural process, but as a way of thinking in loops: transforming, reusing, and reconnecting people, materials, and ideas over time. A shared ground where a lot has settled – and from which new things are now starting to grow. With works by: Nana Balint, Bianca Băilă, Lucian Barbu, Mimi Ciora, Florin Fâra, Ana Kun, Obreja Cosmin, Gavril Pop, Sergiu Sas, Arnold Schlachter, and Ștefan Tiron. You throw out something, and suddenly you get back something else, quite unexpectedly. Composting doesn't only consist of a biological process of decomposition and transfiguration, but in a profound metaphor for interconnectedness and reutilisation — a continuous process of transforming materials, ideas, energies. Those observational instances revive bits of a communal soil, composed of memories of the beginnings of time, of the mechanisms of the natural world, and the state of things, how they are visible now. “Some things reach out from the soil” is a reflection on the possibility of replacing narratives of progress with a model of ecological and circular thinking, where the common ground is also supported by a matrix of interconnectedness of the micro-macro community involved throughout the time in the life of an artist-run space. A quick sketch of the outline for possible other ideas, exhibitions, and, why not, new and better soils.
