Beyond the de/fence – Szilárd Gáspár Curator Ferenc Domokos Former professional boxer, sculptor, and performer, Szilárd Gáspár uses his body as a working tool and means of expression. In his performances, matter is shaped not with instruments, but through punches, effort, and direct contact – a struggle of resilience and strength. The exhibition “Beyond the De/fence” brings to the forefront another side of his practice: photography and documentation. The images are not merely witnesses of the past, but build a timeline – from childhood to his sports career and up to art. To follow them, the visitor must move, come closer, and step into the artist’s rhythm. Just as a “defence” or a “fence” hide and protects, these images too reveal only fragments – beyond them remain intentions, pauses, silences, and a life always in motion.
