Camera

A series of photographs created through an experimental-speculative process, in which various plants and flowers—including Tulipoids, Cucurbitoids, Malmaisonoids, or Dondukov Cactusoids—capture images from their own point of view, from ground level (in the case of creeping plants), from a medium level (in the case of low-growing plants), or from above (in the case of trees and climbing plants), reflecting the unique perception that vegetation can have on the urban environment in which it develops. The work developed in a context where nature, plants, and landscape are increasingly present in contemporary discourse as a response to the climate change crisis and social alienation. It proposes an inverted vision, in which plants are the ones studying, analyzing, and elaborating the dynamics of the city and its relationship with its citizens. At the same time, the approach reimagines old photographic techniques, rooted in the still-mysterious process of photosynthesis and its chemistry, symbolically transforming fruits and seed pods into camera obscuras, and petals and leaves into diaphragms and filters, giving rise to an endless flow of unseen images. Olivia Mihălțianu lives and works between Bucharest and Sofia. Her artistic practice is cross-media and process-oriented, involving video, film, photography, object, installation, and performance. Her works reference, among other things, consumption, alternative economy, ecology, identity, and cultural shifts within various socio-political contexts. Her works have recently been presented in museums and galleries such as: Octopus Art Space, Sofia (2026), Krupa Art Foundation, Wroclaw (2026), Museo Nazionale della Montagna, Turin (2025–2026).
