Măsura flexibilă a tuturor posibilităților

With Cristina Garabețanu
Curated by Călina Coman
We are pleased to invite you on Thursday, May 8th starting with 6:00 PM, to the opening of Cristina Garabețanu’s solo exhibition “The Flexible Measure of All Possibilities,” curated by Calina Coman. The project The Flexible Measure of All Possibilities is built around the idea of transformation. Garabețanu’s approach begins with an investigation of her own genealogy and expands into a broader reflection on the connection between belonging, rights, freedom, and cultural values. The origin of her family name and the multicultural heritage of her lineage—composed of Romanians, Armenians, Greeks, and possibly Roma—are visually configured by the artist through three-dimensional objects and mosaics. On the one hand, she seeks to reconstruct a fragmented history and an individual artistic discovery; on the other hand, she creates a space for dialogue, allowing for multiple interpretative directions related to the history of both geographic and emotional territories. The title of the exhibition suggests the idea of a flexible unit, in constant transformation—an act that implies the continuous adaptation of the concept of freedom to various historical instances. The mediums through which Garabețanu conveys these themes are closely tied to the narrative of each series of works, whether photography, sound, or object. The series Line of Thought (2025) and Lies for the Liars, Clarity for the Seekers (2025) are collections of images that support the central themes of the exhibition: the first presents an explicit vision documenting the relationship between humans and the environment, while the second operates subtly, investigating memory as a fluctuating territory—a space where cultures, social phenomena, and political tensions intersect. The sound component, created in collaboration with George Șorodoc, adds an immaterial dimension to the affective archive through a montage of ambient recordings that create a sensory exploration space of the concept of flexible, ever-changing cultural identity. The exhibition includes works in media such as Installation, Photography, Collage, and Sculpture. The opening will take place in the presence of the artist and the curator. Special thanks to Cotnari Winery for the NAIV wine. The Flexible Measure of All Possibilities is part of the annual program “Photography After Photography”, co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN). The exhibition is being organised in partnership with Borderline Art Space. Disclaimer: This project does not necessarily represent the position of the National Cultural Fund Administration.
